Vodafone to buy Sarcom

Vodafone Egypt has announced that it is acquiring a majority interest in Sarmady Communications (Sarcom) - a Cairo-based digital media specialist and one of the fastest growing online businesses in the region, according to a statement. Through the acquisition, Vodafone Egypt will own some of the largest online destinations in Egypt, including FilGoal.com, Contactcars.com, and FilBalad.com.

Du services reach 300 networks

Du, the UAE's new integrated telecom operator, after only 18 months of operations has announced the availability of its roaming services in 300 leading telecom operators spread across 120 countries, according to a statement. Du mobile customers travelling outside the UAE can now access a range of services ranging from voice calls, data services, mobile internet and even 3G services, such as video calling, on select networks.

Kuwait Telecom to launch IPO

Kuwait Telecommunications Co is seeking to raise $93m in an initial public offering next week, reported Bloomberg. The company, in which Saudi Telecom Co. will hold a 26% stake, is selling 50% of its capital in the IPO which closes Sept. 18. Fuad al-Hajeri, a member of the company's founding committee, said he expects up to 700,000 Kuwaitis to buy shares in the company.

Oman picks 8 firms for telecom stake

Oman plans to ask eight telecom operators from Europe, Asia and the Middle East to submit initial proposals for a 25% stake in Oman Telecommunications (Omantel), reported Reuters. Al-Futtaim Group acquires Futech
